Cover Letter Tips
⭐ Paragraph 1: Connect Directly to the Job Posting
Use this opening to show you understand what they’re hiring for and that you’re responding with intention, not a generic template.
Tips for this paragraph:
Reference the exact role title and 1–2 priorities from the posting.
Mirror the employer’s language (e.g., “client experience,” “cross‑functional coordination,” “data‑driven decision‑making”).
Signal alignment immediately — show them you “get” what they need.
Example approach: “I’m excited to apply for the [Role Title] position, especially given your focus on [priority from posting] and [another priority]. The role’s emphasis on [specific responsibility] aligns strongly with the work I’ve been doing and the type of impact I’m looking to bring to my next team.”
⭐ Paragraph 2: Highlight Your Specific Skills & Proof
This is your evidence paragraph — the one that proves you can deliver what they’re asking for.
Tips for this paragraph:
Choose 2–3 skills or achievements that directly match the posting.
Use short, powerful examples (mini‑stories) instead of listing traits.
Focus on outcomes: efficiency gained, revenue supported, problems solved, people helped.
Keep the tone confident but not inflated.
Example approach: “In my recent roles, I’ve built a reputation for [skill], [skill], and [skill], consistently delivering results such as [achievement] or [impact]. I’m especially proud of [specific example], which reflects the same level of ownership and problem‑solving your team values.”
⭐ Paragraph 3: Why You’re Excited About This Company
This is where you show genuine enthusiasm — not flattery, but alignment.
Tips for this paragraph:
Mention something specific about the company: mission, culture, product, community impact, growth, innovation, etc.
Tie your values or career direction to their environment.
End with forward momentum — an invitation to continue the conversation.
Example approach: “I’m particularly drawn to [Company Name] because of your commitment to [specific value, initiative, or mission]. The opportunity to contribute to a team that prioritizes [something meaningful] is exactly the environment where I do my best work. I’d welcome the chance to bring my experience to your organization and support the continued success of your team.”
