Why I Spend Time Getting to Know Every Client.
One of the most common questions I receive is:
"Why do you schedule interviews with your resume clients?"
The answer is simple.
Because the best information is almost never on the resume.
Most people can provide:
Job titles
Employment dates
Responsibilities
Education
Certifications
Those details are important.
But they don't explain why someone was successful.
They don't explain why someone was promoted.
They don't explain why leadership trusted them with additional responsibility.
And they certainly don't explain who the person is.
A Resume Should Tell a Story
When hiring managers review resumes, they are not just asking:
What did this person do?
They're also asking:
Why were they successful?
Why were they promoted?
Why should I interview them?
The answers rarely appear in a job description.
They emerge during conversation.
Over the years, I have found that some of the most valuable resume content comes from comments candidates make during an interview:
"They asked me to take over the project because the team trusted me."
"I was promoted after six months."
"My manager called me the perfect person for the role."
"I taught the rest of the team how to use the new system."
Most people never think to include these details on a resume.
Yet those moments often tell the most important parts of the story.
My Process
Every client begins with a conversation.
Initial Phone Call
The first call allows us to discuss goals, answer questions, and identify the types of opportunities being pursued.
Google Meet Interview
This is where the real work begins.
We discuss:
Career progression
Responsibilities
Accomplishments
Leadership experiences
Promotions
Awards
Professional goals
Projects
Challenges overcome
Most importantly, we uncover the patterns that explain why someone has succeeded throughout their career.
The goal is to understand not only what a person does, but who they are.
Draft and Feedback
Once the first draft is complete, clients review the document and provide feedback.
This is often where additional accomplishments surface and where we refine the story to ensure it feels authentic and accurate.
Only after revisions are complete do I finalize the resume.
No Outsourcing. No Resume Mills.
Every resume is written by me.
I do not outsource work.
I do not send projects overseas.
I do not hand resumes to anonymous writers.
When you work with Stage2 Resumes, the person conducting the interview is the same person writing the resume.
That continuity matters.
The conversations we have are what allow me to capture the details that would otherwise be lost.
Your Privacy Matters
In an age where personal information is increasingly treated as a product, privacy matters.
Stage2 Resumes:
Does not sell personal information.
Does not share client information.
Does not use client information for marketing purposes without permission.
Treats all career discussions and resume content as confidential.
Trust is earned, and protecting client information is a responsibility I take seriously.
Transparent and Secure Billing
After the resume has been reviewed and finalized, invoices are sent through Squarespace, a trusted platform used by small businesses across the country.
I do not request payments through cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, gift cards, wire transfers, or unconventional payment methods that can sometimes raise concerns about legitimacy.
The process is straightforward, professional, and secure.
The Difference Between a Resume and a Story
A resume can list accomplishments.
A great resume explains them.
A resume can list promotions.
A great resume shows why they happened.
A resume can tell employers where you've been.
A great resume helps employers understand where you're going.
That is why I spend time getting to know every client.
Because the best resumes aren't built from forms and questionnaires.
They're built from conversations.
And every successful career has a story worth telling.
