Looking for a job can be a nightmare. Here are 6 simple tricks to get the job of your dreams.

On Halloween, I was thinking about just how scary the process of finding a job has become. Being Ghosted by recruiters, vanishing job postings, posted salaries so low they make you want to scream, skills demanded that are so varied they are like Franken-jobs.

It is, in fact, a tough market. Here are 6 things you CAN do to exorcise the negative spirits and get through the graveyard of unemployment:

  1. Choose a company where you would be interested in working. It doesn’t matter if they are hiring, look for companies, not job postings.

  2. Find them on linked-In, and comment on posts. “congrats”, “Looks like a fun place to work”, “looks like an amazing team”, etc.

  3. Find the name of the hiring manager - send them a connection request and direct message that you are interested in working there.

  4. Attach a resume and cover letter describing specifics about the company that interests you. Be specific to be noticed.

  5. Drive by and leave an envelope with your resume and cover letter with the same details, but in person. No school like the old school.

  6. Wash, Rinse, and Repeat with several local companies.

This approach might seem crazy, but competing against hundreds of other applicants after a job is posted is just…ghoulish!

If your resume needs to be resurrected from the dead, no need to find a phychic…I am here for your resume needs.

Good luck, and Happy Halloween.
