Has finding a job gone to the dogs - or does your resume just bite?

My dog, Shea, who can eat a resume in 30 seconds flat

“Finding a job didn’t used to be so hard”, at least, that is what they have been saying.

In fact, “they” are wrong. Finding a job isn’t actually HARDER, it’s just very DIFFERENT.

With newer technology being introduced almost every day, and with the “all knowing” Applicant Tracking System (AI for hiring managers) changing the rules of the game, companies have adjusted how they select who to interview. Knowing this, applicants MUST adapt as well!

Customizing your resume is a great way to be seen through the murky code and get through this virtual obstacle course - but is it actually that important?

YES!

As someone who has placed over 5,000 people into jobs over my 20 years in the staffing industry, I can tell you without a doubt, that a strong resume is more than just a piece of paper. It is:

  • An introduction to who you are professionally

  • A basic timeline of career choices you have made

  • A proof of delivery statement of what you have accomplished

  • A guide to your interview, allowing YOU to set up the framework for what THEY will ask during your interview

  • An instruction sheet for future employers on what training you will need to grow in your career

Think of your resume as a ticket, then ask yourself one simple question: Where do I want to go?
